Common problem processing

Please check the physical connection between PC serial port and the device, and check the serial port.
If the connection and port are correct, check the configuration of connection manager in the tool.
If the parameters are configured correctly, please restart the device, and after device starts completely, try again.

Please check the physical connection between PC telnet port and device, whether the IP address is correct configuration and whether can ping success.
If telnet connected correctly, check the configuration of connection manager in the tool.

When the system prompts chip type mismatch, please check whether the current chip of tool matches the device chip type.
The Tool chip type can be found here (main menu > chip > current chip).

This tool is based on Java, so it works in the general pattern of Java programs.
If the tool runs slowly, because it needs large memory space when working(for example, read a lot register or memory data to the tools). At this moment, please increase the tool memory.

Configurate the tool memory as follows:

Edit the config file called HiTool_v1_0_9.ini(name may be not the same for the different versions) under the HiTool directory to change the JVM startup arguments as below:
-vmargs
-Xms512m
-Xmx512m
-XX: PermSize = 64M
-XX: MaxPermSize = 256M
You can adjust these arguments based on the actual physical memory size on the PC.
Arguments Description:
-Xms512m: the initial JVM heap memory size is 512M.
-Xmx512m: the maximum JVM heap memory size is 512M (allocation is controlled by JVM).
-XX: PermSize = 64M: the initial JVM non-heap memory size is 64M.
-XX: MaxPermSize = 256M: the maximum JVM non-heap memory size is 256M.
-XX: + UseParallelGC: run in parallel GC (JVM garbage collection).
JVM initial heap memory size is specified by -Xms, the default is 1/64 of the physical memory.
JVM maximum heap memory size is specified by -Xmx, the default is 1/4 of the physical memory.
Default, if free heap memory is less than 40%, the JVM heap will increase until the maximum limit of the -Xmx.
If free heap memory is greater than 70%, the JVM will reduce heap until the minimum -Xms restrictions.
Therefore, set -Xms and -Xmx to be the same value to avoid having to adjust the size of the heap memory after GC (JVM garbage collection).
If your machine is a dual-core CPU, you can try the "-XX:+UseParallelGC" to run GC parallelly.

Note:
If-Xmx-XX: MaxPermSize not specified or the value is too small, the application may cause java.lang.OutOfMemeoryError error.
Re-configurate the arguments, then re-run the HiTool.

Question:

The tool can't work when start by the shortcut in the "start menu"

Reason:

Operating system characteristics

When use the [Start menu] (shown as Figure 9-1). Drag the HiTool.exe into the menu, the tool will run in the home directory of the opeartion system user, the config file of HiTool will be created in the home directory when the Hitool is started. The Hitool can't load these config files during running will cause exceptions.

When use the [Classic Start menu](Shown as Figure9-2). Drag the HiTool.exe into the menu, the tool will run in the directory of HITool, the config file of HiTool will be created in the directory of HiTool when it is started. The Hitool will work well

Solutions:

Create a shortcut first, then drag it into the [Start menu], shown as Figure9-3.

Use the [Classic Start menu] shown in Figure 9-2.

On Windows, the eclipsec.exe console executable can be used to start HiTool Platform for improved command line behavior, The terminal window will be opened, too. When terminal window exits, the HiTool exits.

You can find it by executing the command 'java -version' in the system console.
